Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that features many luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
