Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino wagering is illegal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of amenities aside from the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
