Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino betting is illegal. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling den, features 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel building that contains many conveniences aside from the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
